This is the second life that Ian has taken this season—Allan Christie (Alexander Vlahos) was the first. But unlike Jamie, who killed Richard Brown (Chris Larkin) at the end of episode 1 to keep Claire (Caitríona Balfe) safe going forward and seemed to have no qualms about it, Ian seems to feel it more.
“Ian is an interesting mix of cultures at this point,” Gabaldon says. “Is he Scottish, Mohawk, both at once, or something beyond either? Both are cultures with a strong tradition of vengeance, and he must—knowing Arch Bug—expect the man to be vengeful. That being the case, he’s got a choice: give Arch his vengeance, i.e., put his life at Arch’s mercy (if he has any, which he really doesn’t…), or kill Arch.
“Somewhere in the background of [Ian’s] character, though, lies a deep respect and love for women and mothers—and Mrs. Bug was motherly toward him (fed him, washed his clothes, etc.), which leaves him with a deep sense of guilt, even though he knows what he’s done was accidental. That being so, he can’t bring himself to try to kill Arch, and so…he does the other thing he can think of to resolve the situation, and not have to live with his guilt.”
When asked what it was like to film the pivotal scene, Heughan and Balfe said that only one word came to mind.
“Funny. It was really funny,” Balfe told Insider with a laugh. “It’s not the easiest thing to run with buckets of water when you’re in heavy costumes.”
“Some of us may not have done that very well,” she joked, keeping quiet on who in the cast might have not been pulling their weight.
“Yeah, it was funny,” Heughan added, giving his costar a knowing look.

Since the house had been used consistently since the show’s fourth season, Heughan added that it turned out to be an emotional moment for all when they saw it reduced to just a hollowed-out shell the next day.
“It was just sad to say goodbye to something that had been a home for the Frasers, but also for us as actors for a number of years,” he said.
In the third episode of Outlander’s seventh season, Jamie’s brave (but sometimes reckless) nephew makes a grave error. After discovering that the Bugs were responsible for stealing the missing Jacobite gold off Jocasta’s property, Jamie (Sam Heughan) banishes the couple from the Ridge.
But as Jamie and Ian watch who they believe is Arch Bug (Hugh Ross) dig up the buried gold under the burnt-out house, they decide to confront him. In the confusion of the dark and the moment, Ian kills who he believes is Arch, but is actually Murdina Bug (Sarah Collier).
Ian instantly regrets his actions. He’s previously been known to carry the weight of his own guilt around quite heavily, as we saw in season 6 when he lost his wife and child. “He loved Murdina,” Bell tells EW. “He is going to be wrestling with a lot of emotions that I think he probably thought were behind him. It’s all coming up again, this idea of ‘Am I a good person if I kill so easily? If I murder so easily, is there something wrong with me?’ Maybe there is a little bit, but he did it to protect Jamie. That’s at the core of it — it’s protecting his family. It’s protecting his loved ones by any means possible.”
Here is a NEW Interview with Caitriona Balfe from Decider
From Decider :
“Oh, well, I can’t say that it’s a natural thing for me to be singing,” Balfe told Decider, confirming that yes, she is really singing in Outlander Season 3 Episode 7. And it wasn’t necessarily her idea.
