The Droughtlander is finally over!
After almost a two-year wait, time-travelling period drama Outlander is back for a sixth season, picking up the story of Claire and Jamie Fraser (Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan) as they build a life on Fraser’s Ridge in North Carolina with their extended family.

Of course, this being Outlander, that life is never simple, and the new season not only deals with the aftermath of Claire’s sexual assault in season five, but also introduces a new family – the Christies – who come to live on the Ridge.
Led by Tom Christie, whom Jamie knew two decades earlier when they were both imprisoned at Ardsmuir in Scotland, the new characters (played by Mark Lewis Jones, Alexander Vlahos and Jessica Reynolds) are sure to cause heartache and trauma for the Frasers in the upcoming season.
Digital Spy caught up with star Sam Heughan to exclusively chat about season six, an important new addition to the crew, and just how he sees Outlander ending…
That [the period after Claire had returned to the 20th century following the Battle of Culloden] is one of my favourite Jamie times – he’s not expecting to be alive, really, he’s without Claire, he’s living in the memory of her. It’s hard in a way as I created this mindset or character of Jamie at that point of his life and played it a couple of years ago, and then to go back and he’s slightly changed [in later seasons] – the way he talks, he talks more, he’s more open.
It was so fun to go back and to see where Tom and Jamie’s relationship started and the animosity between them, or the standoff between them, and so I really enjoyed it.
