Here is a NEW Interview with Diana Gabaldon from Parade Magazine
From Parade :
When Diana Gabaldon sat down to write Outlander, it was initially supposed to be a practice novel, but the accolades from the people she allowed to read bits and pieces of it were so positive, it became her first release.
More after the jump!
With that in mind, you can imagine how gratifying it is to her to have not just made the Top 100 list of America’s best-loved novels as compiled by PBS’s The Great American Read, but now that voting is winding down, to learn that she is in the Top 10.
“I was kind of struck that of the Top 10 list, only two authors [J.K. Rowling and Gabaldon] were still alive…which might explain PBS’s desire for me to come for their final show,” Gabaldon told Parade.com in this exclusive interview.
Outlander will be featured as one of the books on Tuesday night’s “Other Worlds” episode of The Great America Read, which features books that take readers on a magical journey. In addition to Outlander, “Other Worlds” will also take viewers to Middle Earth [J. R. R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings franchise] and Lilliput [Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels].
Then when voting wraps, The Great American Read will air its “Grand Finale” episode and reveal America’s choice for its No. 1 book on Tuesday, October 23, which will feature Gabaldon, actor Wil Wheaton; authors Robert McCammon and Amy Tan; journalist Lesley Stahl; literary expert Baratunde Thurston and more.
What an amazing and intelligent lady Diana Gabaldon is – and what a rare talent. I love the background she gives on how she approaches the writing of her books. I sincerely hope she wins the vote! Her “Outlander” books has made an impression on my life in many good ways. Now that says it all – to make an impression on someone’s life. She has dropped a line about her book nine – can hardly wait till that one comes and she will be working on book 10 – Wow!
