There’s no denying that Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan have an on-screen chemistry that is off-the-charts hot, providing epic love-making scenes that will stand the test of time. Ironically, though, the two 36-year-olds (who are as beautiful in person as they are talented) have remained extremely hush about their love lives since the hit Starz show Outlander premiered two summers ago. The love they portray on screen, which takes place in the 18th century, is nothing short of captivating. There’s something whimsical about a time before Tinder, “ghosting,” or the DM, when relationships just seemed to thrive in a pure, romantic way. I know I wish romance was still old-school. Anyone with me?

As Emmy season heats up, the Starz original series Outlander laid out a strong case for its costumes and set design categories last week with the opening of the exhibition, “The Artistry ofOutlander,” at The Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills. Cast and creatives from the show, including actors Caitriona Balfe (Claire), Sam Heughan (Jamie), costume designer Terry Dresbach, production designer Jon Gary Steele and executive producers Maril Davis and Ronald D. Moore (who happens to be Dresbach’s husband), attended the exhibition preview. All were in attendance to celebrate the gorgeous costumes and elaborate sets, and to talk about recreating 18th century Parisian society for the show’s second season.

I caught up with the stars at LA’s Paley Center for Media recently and picked their brains about how they feel they would be as parents together in real life. Neither are parents in real life, and well, let’s just say they’re really,really good at acting.
“Oh, wow. [There would] probably [be] a lot of bickering, I would imagine,” says Heughan. “Certainly any children would have a very dodgy accent,” the 36-year-old jokes. He adds that Balfe would be the one to lay down the law. “I would like to think that I would be very relaxed, but actually would probably be kind of tough,” he says.“No, I think I’d be pretty relaxed. Yeah, she’d be tough. Very tough.”
