When Dougal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish) makes a return on “Outlander,” he does it with style. In the case of Saturday’s (May 9) episode, he comes to Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) rescue by asking her to marry him.
After 45 minutes of watching Claire and Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix) travel the Scottish countryside trying to make enough noise to find her missing husband Jamie (Sam Heughan), Dougal makes a surprise appearance to let the Sassenach know her plan worked — but with a cost. Jamie was captured by the British and is being held at the impenetrable prison Fort William, and his uncle writes him off as all but dead.
That’s why instead of offering to help Claire save her one true love, Dougal proposes to her instead. After her initial disdain wears off, she realizes he isn’t marrying her just because he wants to hook up with her (though as he proved earlier in the season, he’s definitely into that). The marriage gets Dougal Lallybroch, and control of the Fraser lands is what he’s been after all along.

I thought Jamie was taken to Wentworth prison. Fort William was where Claire was taken in episode nine.p
