*New* Sophie Skelton & Sam Heughan Speak Episode 4×09 of Outlander “The Birds and the Bees” With TV Guide   1 comment

From TV Guide:

“I know that people want Brianna and her father to have this wonderful reunion, but it’s very different,” Skelton explained to TV Guide. “They’re strangers. With Jamie and Claire, they’re going to fall into each other’s arms and pick up where they left off. Jamie and Brianna are strangers. They’ve never met each other before.”

There’s also a dark cloud hanging over Brianna’s head as she comes face to face with her father for the first time. The interaction comes just hours after Roger (Richard Rankin) fled following their newlywed fight and Brianna was raped by Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speleers). In the wake of the horrifying incident, Jamie was not actually the person Brianna was hoping to find.

“It’s a bittersweet reunion in that Brianna has just gone through a lot of trauma,” Skelton said. “Actually, in that moment I think Brianna needs Claire. Seeing Jamie in that moment is just the next step to getting to Claire.”

Brianna was shortly reunited with her mother as well, but even Claire as a buffer couldn’t ease all of the awkwardness between Brianna and Jamie. However, it became obvious over the course of the episode that there is no doubt that Brianna carries her father’s hot blood.

“She’s a Fraser,” Heughan teased to TV Guide. “She has a lot of the characteristics of her father, which is stubborn and can fly off the handle.”

*New* Maril Davis’ Speaks Episode 4×09 of Outlander “The Birds and the Bees” With Variety   1 comment

From Variety

“You always want to do something a little different in the TV show to give the fans who know the books and love the books something unexpected sometimes,” executive producer Maril Davis tells Variety. “But this scene, in particular, was something we wanted to keep in the realm of that book scene because we were all excited to see it come to life.”

And a great part of bringing it to life in a beautiful and satisfying way, Davis says, was the work of series stars Heughan and Skelton.

“The emotions that show on their faces, it’s obviously a very difficult scene [for the actors],” she says. “There are so many things that would be running through your mind.”

Davis points out that the “shock, elation, heartbreak — the heartbreak of not being able to see this beautiful woman turn into this beautiful woman” that plays out on Heughan’s face is “just amazing” in the scene. Similarly, Davis was impressed to see Skelton portray the “expectation of hearing about this man and finally meeting him in the flesh.”

*New* Sophie Skelton’s Talks About Episode 4×09 of Outlander, “The Birds and the Bees” With Town & Country   1 comment

From Town & Country:

I want to start by asking about Brianna’s reunion with parents because that’s what this season has really been building to. What was it like to shoot that first scene with Sam Heughan?

It’s quite a nice parallel because I think that was actually the first scene that Sam and I ever shot together. We’ve done press and been in and around set together for a couple of years, but we haven’t worked together yet. So that was really cool because it gave it that fresh sort of energy.

Their reunion is actually one of my favorite scenes, not just because it’s one of the most anticipated moments from the book, but because there’s so much going on for Bree. It’s not a simple “meeting your father for the first time” moment. She’s got Laoghaire’s
voice in her head about will Jamie accept her?; she’s missing her mother; she’s come fresh off the back of losing Roger; and a rape; and losing her virginity; and everything else. She’s so broken.
