*New* Caitriona Balfe Speaks with The LA Times about Outlander and on the danger of mishandling sexual assault on TV   1 comment

From The LA Times:

In the latest episode of The Times’ TV podcast “Can’t Stop Watching,” host and staff writer Yvonne Villarreal asks “Outlander” star Caitriona Balfe about her character’s harrowing kidnapping and rape in the Season 5 finale — a scene Balfe’s co-star, Sam Heughan, discussed during his own appearance earlier this month:

One of the things I love about Claire is that everyone talks about what a strong character she is — but there’s a danger, in that people sort of make that character Teflon. … I thought it was really important to show that no matter how strong you are, no matter who you are, if you go through something like this, first of all, you don’t know how your body is going to react. You don’t know how you’re going to be able to process it. And nobody comes out of anything like this unscathed.

It wasn’t all heavy subject matter, though. Listen to today’s episode of “Can’t Stop Watching” to hear Balfe chat about sketching the “Outlander” cast, her love of “Cagney and Lacey” and co-starring with — maggots. And be sure to tune in to recent episodes with Better Things” creator Pamela Adlon, “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” star Jane Levy and “Ozark” Emmy winner Julia Garner.

*New* Sophie Skelton’s Outlander Season 5 Interview With Gold Derby   1 comment

From Gold Derby

“It was the Bree I was really wanting to play,” admits Sophie Skelton about the eventful fifth season of Starz’s epic fantasy drama “Outlander.” “I’ve had some amazing material to play in this show,” she says, adding “I’ve had so much to play with. Right now I’m just living and breathing ‘Outlander.’” Watch our exclusive video interview with Skelton above.

This season was particularly eventful for Brianna, who is brutally raped by Bonnet early on in the season, after which she is haunted by the lingering trauma of the assault. To add insult to injury, Bree also deals with Roger almost dying after being captured and hanged by thugs, Jamie almost dying after a venomous snake bite and Claire being violently tortured and raped by the nefarious Brown clan, all while keeping her newborn son safe from looming threats lurking in the wild rugged surroundings of colonial America.

“She has a lot thrown at her and I was really excited for the season,” she declares. “I think Brianna is a really hard character to peg down, to understand her can be quite challenging, so it’s been good for me and the audience to finally get inside of Brianna’s head.”

Review of Outlander Kitchen 2: To The New World and Back Again & Giveaway   137 comments

We were given the chance to review this book by Theresa and she also sent us an additional copy to do a giveaway. Thank you Theresa!

If you have the first Outlander Kitchen book, this is the second one, it comes out on June 2nd.

First and foremost let me start by saying that this book is amazing. I loved the first Outlander Kitchen book and this one is just as good. If you don’t own the first book, what are you waiting for? Not only is Theresa a great chef, but she’s also a great writer. From Pender Island, British Columbia, Theresa brings us into her Outlander kitchen and makes us want to move in right next door. I’ll help with your herb garden Theresa and I’m really good at gardening. *wink*

Have you ever wondered what the food you read about in a book tastes like? Wonder no longer, Theresa paints us a very vivid picture of the food from Outlander. How lucky are we?

I loved reading the introduction to each recipe and how she described its origins. She manages to take recipes from the Outlander books and turns them into reality. If you’re like me, you’ll be salivating reading them. I foresee a Tarte Tantin and Young Ian’s Grilled Succotash Salad in my very near future. In Outlander Kitchen: To The New World and Back Again, Theresa brings us even more recipes from the Outlander and Lord John world. From Benedicta’s Steak and Mushroom pie, to Jenny’s Breakfast Crumble and Savannah Clam Chowder, Theresa really does bring you on a trip to the New World and back again. In this book she has added gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan options. There are recipes for everyone!

Each fully detailed recipes brings you back in time to the Outlander world and the best part of it all is that you can bring the Outlander world into your own kitchen with this book. Whether you’re good in the kitchen or not, Theresa does a terrific job of explaining how to recreate her recipes. So fear not, she guides you every step of the way. Each of her books has a great introduction which describes the ingredients she uses and how you can recreate the same in your own kitchen.

Don’t skip out on reading her introduction, Diana’s prologue and at the end of the book “The Diet and Cookery of Eighteen Century Highlanders”. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this part as it was filled with historical details and information.

I highly recommend this book and let’s face it, even if you’re not a cook, you need this book just to look at the information that comes along with each recipe, the pictures and all the historical details.

You can pre-order Outlander Kitchen: To The New World and Back Again on Amazon by clicking here

ABOSAA Read Along Update and Info – Discussion for the First Two Chapters Starts June 7th!   13 comments

“Time is a lot of the things people say that God is. There’s always preexisting, and having no end. There’s the notion of being all powerful-because nothing can stand against time, can it? Not mountains, not armies. And time is, of course, all-healing. Give anything enough time, and everything is taken care of: all pain encompassed, all hardship erased, all loss subsumed. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. Remember, man, that thou art dust; and unto dust thou shalt return.
And if time is anything akin to God, I suppose that memory must be the devil.”
