Here is a NEW Interview with Terry Dresbach from Town and Country
From T&C:
As Brianna stumbles her way through 18th-century Scotland at the beginning of this week’s episode of Outlander, it becomes immediately apparent that her clothing is a far-cry from the expertly constructed “bat-suit” Claire wore back in time last season.
But in actuality, Brianna’s ’70s attire was inspired by what Claire wore through the stones, not on the television show, but in the source material, Diana Gabaldon’s book.

“We decided fairly early on that part of the story would involve Frank because in talking about Brianna’s journey and her going back, the fact that she’s never met her birth father and was raised by another man for the first 20 years of her life and that’s the only father she’s ever known . . . how torn she would feel, as a character?” says Davis, adding that Brianna is wrestling with feelings of guilt over her perceived betrayal of the man who raised her.
The writers also loved the idea of bringing Frank’s last days to life, since viewers and book readers don’t really know much about the night of the accident that took his life.
“We were like, ‘Oh my god, there’s a face under there!'” executive producer Maril Davis tells The Hollywood Reporter with a laugh about seeing Rankin clean-shaven for the first time. “But unfortunately the head of our hair and makeup department has told us since she started working with us that beards were not common back in this time. I thought, well John Quincy Myers [Kyle Rees] had a beard! We’re always fighting for beards, but she’s always telling us that it’s not historically accurate. This time, we bowed to pressure.”
And according to Davis, making Roger shed his facial hair made sense for the character as he prepared to follow Bree through the stones. “Roger is a historian, so he’d probably know this,” she adds. “He’s not a mountain man like Myers, so the beard had to go.”
She pauses before adding, “It might be back though! Poor Roger’s beard. I’m surprised there’s not a Twitter account already. I’m sure there will be now.”
Asked whether or not a character like Stephen could ever be redeemed, and whether he’d want him to be, the star insisted his good behaviour would only ever be for a selfish purpose.
“That’s a good question,” he said. “I don’t really want to say too much about where he’ll end up this year, but I guess that’s the big thing isn’t it… are people who have capabilities to do these different acts that he does or behave in a certain way, can you change people like that?
“I don’t know. I think that’s quite a big question. I feel that maybe with creative license dramatically he could be, but I would think it’d be hard-pushed because of the way his psyche is and the way it’s so ingrained in him to behave.
“I think he has the capability to an act of kindness or goodness or to do something like that” Ed continued. “But I still feel that he would be doing that from a point of gratitude more than anything else.
“It would never be for the better of others.”
