*New* Sam Heughan’s Interview With Vulture   1 comment

From Vulture

How did you find out about the writers’ plan to have the bear be a man, and what was your reaction?
We didn’t really know until we actually first read the script. We were obviously thinking at first, you know, it’s going to be a lot like The Revenant and the DiCaprio [bear] fight. To read it’s actually a man, I think it’s a really nice twist. We have a few of those this season—moments that I think fans of the books are gonna be surprised by—and I think it really adds to it. It’s fun to keep them on the front of their seats. And it’s also the beginning of the sort of understanding and mutual respect that Jamie has with the Native Americans. This moment, really in their eyes certainly, gives them some respect for who he is and vice versa.

What do you remember about filming that fight? It’s dark, you’re battling a man in a bear costume with claws. What was that experience like?
I mean, we always talk about the weather, but it was -7 degrees Celsius at night, and it was so cold, because you know Jamie, he’s just in his shirt. But it was fun. It’s hard to light that kind of stuff in a forest, but it’s a pretty intense fight, and he’s a big guy and certainly Jamie is; it just shows how dangerous this land is. Jamie and Claire really are having to forge their way in the wilderness and build their home and their new settlement, and there are so many dangers there.

NEW HQ Still of Sam Heughan in Outlander 4×04 “Common Ground”   1 comment

Here is a NEW HQ Still of Sam Heughan in Outlander 4×04 “Common Ground”

*New* Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Sophie Skelton & Richard Rankin’s Interview With THR   1 comment

From THR

“At first, Jamie uses the term ‘savages’ for Native Americans, and he’s wary of them and thinks they’re pretty dangerous,” Heughan says. “He doesn’t understand them that much. But his first encounter, when there is a bit of a standoff with them, he sees in them some sort of code, and he understands them as a warrior nation. There does become this uneasy – or not even uneasy, just an understanding between them. They begin to have respect for each other and trade with each other.”

Without spoiling upcoming storylines, the ties between the Frasers and the Native Americans continue to strengthen over the course of the season. “There are similarities between the Highlanders, the Scots and the Native Americans, and it’s a really nice story we’re telling,” Heughan says. “It develops over time until the end of the season that I’m really excited about that involves the whole village of the Mohawk. Jamie really trusts them.”

Meanwhile, the episode also made great strides in Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger’s (Richard Rankin) story in 1971. When Roger discovered the mention of Fraser’s Ridge in the book Bree gave him, he continued to dig deeper until he confirmed that it was Jamie. He called Bree to let her know, and they share a lovely, albeit short and guarded, phone conversation. But a while later, after he continued to research into the past, he was floored to read a news announcement of Jamie and Claire’s death by fire. He tried to call Bree again to update her, but her roommate picked up and revealed that Bree went to Scotland to “visit her mother weeks ago.” Did she go through the stones? Can Roger warn her in time? What’s going through Roger’s head in that moment the call ends?

*New* Matt B. Roberts Speaks About Filming Mohawk Village Scenes   3 comments

From EW

To depict the Native Americans whom Claire [Caitriona Balfe] and Jamie encounter and ultimately befriend, production cast, flew in, and housed roughly 200 indigenous extras from Canada to portray the inhabitants of a Mohawk village, which was constructed in a public park in Scotland.

“It’s funny,” Executive Producer Matthew B. Roberts told EW. “Scotland has a right to roam, so we couldn’t actually close the park. You can only ask people to wait while we film. It’s an authentic Mohawk village that’s populated with people in costume. I remember a few dog walkers coming around the bend on a trail. They looked around like, ‘Wait a minute, what just happened?’ It’s almost like they touched the stones and went through time.”
