Here a NEW Interview with Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin from TV Guide
From TV Guide:
Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) are officially no longer the only couple that can break our hearts on Outlander. Roger (Richard Rankin) and Brianna (Sophie Skelton) took their relationship to the next level in Sunday’s episode, but just as soon as they conceded that they really wanted to be together, things went off the rails in a big way.
More after the jump!
The two went on an adventure to a Highlander festival in the mountains of North Carolina and along the way Brianna introduced Roger as her boyfriend, which was a huge step for these two. That quickly escalated to her Brianna inviting Roger back to her cabin at the end of the first night. It could have been a wonderful, romantic night together but as soon as Roger realized they were heading towards bedroom time, he hit the accelerator and decided to propose.
Brianna, being the modern woman that she is, quickly told him to hold his horses. The rejection exploded into a gigantic fight about how the two of them viewed their relationship and where it was going. Brianna waned to be with Roger and see where things went, while Roger wanted a ring on her finger before he could sleep with her, a promise she’d be his forever. He wanted a lot of commitment that 20-year old Brianna wasn’t ready to give him. Roger ended up leaving the cabin broken hearted and Brianna was stuck wondering how everything could have gone so wrong so quickly.
“[The scene] epitomizes Brianna and Roger’s relationship and how they function together,” Rankin explained to TV Guide. “[They] just let things build up without any real communication, and then let things explode how they will, which is pretty much what happened.”
It was an eye-opening experience to find that the two potential lovers have two completely different ideas of what they want in a relationship at this point in their lives
Roger’s and Brianna’s relationship has a long way to go before they really understand each other. Brianna is quite young and still trying to find her way in life, and Roger wants something more. Very complicated.
