I looked forward to the EW Outlander covers and find myself wishing it was more outdoors rugged Frasers Ridge shots and not ‘a day at Aunt Jocastas’ and have the look so much like last years covers. These photos don’t really represent Drums of Autumn for me, and are more romance novel photos. Diana Gabaldon’s books are so much more than romance novels. It is unfair to Diana Gabaldon, the TV show and the gifted actors to be portrayed this way. Catriona Balfe and Sam Heughan look like they don’t really care for each other in many of the photos, shame to miss an opportunity to do something new and not copy prior years. And, to use the tag line from 2015 – Some like it Scot – hard to believe someone couldn’t have come up with a new line. Hopefully other magazines will publish photos more representative of Drum of Autumn and not make Jamie and Claire look like mannequins.
I have to agree with the above. The books are so much more than that, the actors portray so much more than that, and Diana Gabaldons novels are not “romance”, but history, marriage, faith, love, drama, humor,all things real to life. I have faith this next season will represent all these things and more.
Magazines tend to go for the glamour, however we Outlander fans know better. True, Drums of Autumn, is really about Jamie and Claire making a life for themselves in the New World (I have read the book over and over again), it is full of danger, humour, excitement, complications, and the unknown. I am waiting for the part when Claire gets lost in the wilderness and finds the skull and sees a ghost. However, there is a section in the book when Aunt Jocasta throws a big party where everyone dresses up really fancy (ruffles and all), but it is a plot to get Jamie to agree to stay on her plantation which he doesn’t do. Lots of politics here. So, yes, glamour magazines don’t do much for pioneers – but November 4th is getting closer and we can enjoy our two very favourite people, Jamie and Claire, being themselves in the New World.
What a very glamorous picture of Caitriona. She is such a beauty and seems to be such a nice person. However, I agree with Karen that Caitriona and Sam don’t seem to like each other very much in some of the photos and that spoils it for a lot of people.
Imagine being photographed hour after hour, day after day, and often the photographers chose different attitudes and poses – it would be a little stressful. Wait till Season 4 starts on November 4th, we’ll see the great chemistry between Caitriona and Sam again. I’m counting the days.
