Here is a NEW Interview with Sam Heughan and Matt Roberts from Entertainment Weekly
From EW:
Look who escaped a bare-arsed thrashing!
Any reader of Diana Gabaldon’s Voyager knows that Young Ian is forced to endure 12 cracks of a whip for sneaking out of Lallybroch to join Jamie in Edinburgh. And Young Ian’s dad makes Jamie do the deed because “ye’ve said often enough ye care for him as though he were your son,” the elder Ian says in the book. But in Sunday’s episode of Outlander on Starz, young Ian (John Bell) not only escaped corporal punishment but failed to whip Jamie in return — something that also happened in the book because Jamie feels guilty for his role in his nephew’s misdeed.
“He did get off pretty lightly, to be honest,” cracks Jamie’s alter-ego, Sam Heughan to EW.
Yes, I read the book Voyager and Ian did get a thrashing and so did Jamie. It is impossible to follow the book 100% – just impossible. I do, however, love this season – and all the goings on in it. Yes,Ian did escape a thrashing – but this is pale when you find out as the situation progresses his life later on is even in more danger.
Love love love love the book, perhaps writers room is being a little too pc- previous seasons have not backed away from personal violence and no fans have left- hope we have more cute, funny moments from the book – a little too dark this season. To me the ” daddy!!” Was laugh out loud in the book, I missed it
