Q) What are the recent projects that you are working on?
A) I’m focusing mainly on “Outlander” because it is a lot of work and such an amazing series for me. I have to focus on this. I’m shooting “Outlander” for ten months so I don’t really have the time to do anything else.
Q) Did you spend much time the reading books to get into character?
A) That’s the thing, I didn’t read the books. I didn’t want to be too informed. I wanted to keep it fresh because Fergus doesn’t know what will happen to him, Jamie or anyone else. The cool thing about working on “Outlander” is trying to live the life of the characters in a way you don’t know. I think Caitriona [Balfe] is reading the book and sometimes she spoils us with information that we don’t want to know. Mainly, I’ve been working more on the scripts and also what Romann [Berrux] did on Season One because I thought it was relevant and very interesting to work around. So, it was more of the scripts and Roman’s performance.
Q) What was your audition like for the role of Fergus?
A) That’s a good question. I was actually not a scene for “Outlander” this season, but probably in further seasons because it was a scene they wrote where Fergus has his dwarf child and a very intense scene between him and Claire. I was there a couple of times and I waited forever. It was very stressful. In the end they were like, “We’re going to go with you.” That was it. I guess they were trying to try the important scenes and how I’ll handle the…
Q) Drama and intensity?
A) Yeah! Yeah! You have two or three big, important scenes in each episode and you have to focus on these in the beginning when you work. And that’s what they did. It was a very long process because they wanted to be sure to go with the right guy because now we’re together for a long time.
