NEW Interview with Caitriona Balfe with TV Line   3 comments

Here is a NEW Interview with Caitriona Balfe from TV Line

OUTLANDER – SEASON 3 – EPISODE 306

From TV Line:

Before this past Sunday’s Outlander, the last time Claire and Jamie Fraser saw each other, they were in their 20s. After roughly two decades apart, they reunited (or at least started to) at the end of Episode 5… looking much like they had on the eve of the Battle of Culloden, despite the intervening years.

And that, star Caitriona Balfe says good-naturedly, is just something viewers of the show are going to have to get on board with.

More after the jump!

Balfe tells TVLine that neither she nor co-star Sam Heughan were afraid of wearing heavy makeup that would make them appear to be in their 40s, but “I do understand the decisions that were made, because there’s a long way to go if we continue to do this show.”

She refers to the Starz series’ source material: Diana Gabaldon has written eight novels in the Outlander series and is working on a ninth. By the end of Book 8, Written in My Own Heart’s Blood, [Slight Spoiler Alert] Claire is in her early 60s, while Jamie is on the northern end of his 50s. If the television adaptation continues its one book = one season formula, that’s a lot more time for the pair to visibly mature on screen.

  1. Loved the interview. Actually, there are some people who actually don’t show their age that much. So it is really not a surprise then that Claire and Jamie in the show do not show that much change in appearance – they are the lucky ones. Would like to hear what Sam Heughan has to say, it appears that he hasn’t done too many interviews lately – always like to hear what he has to say.

  2. Both actors are in their mid to late 30s in reality. I don’t really think it’s that big of a stretch to see them both as older. I was rewatching some episodes from season 1 and was thinking how young Sam/Jamie looked. In the first two seasons Sam hadn’t worked out to the point where he had zero body fat. When you see pictures of him now his face is thinner, and so is his body as again complete muscle defination but no body fat. To me this makes him look older. Sorry but my preference is a man that’s muscular but with some meat on his bones also. Again just my preference, I still think Sam looks good. As for Cait, again women between their 30s and 40s age differently. Claire’s life experiences is what will cause her to seem older I believe.

  3. Age or no age – Sam and Caitriona look amazing no matter what.
