NEW Interview with Richard Rankin from Parade Magazine   1 comment

Here is a NEW Interview with Richard Rankin from Parade Magazine

From Parade:

Move over Sam Heughan. There’s a new Scottish hottie in the cast of Outlander, and fans of the Starz epic, historical, fantasy series have taken notice of Richard Rankin, who plays Roger Wakefield, godson/adoptive-son to Reverend Wakefield and Brianna’s (Sophie Skelton) new love interest.

More after the jump!

“Outlander’s new hunk. Is that a thing?,” Rankin jokes with in this exclusive interview via phone from the U.K. “Well, I’m not going to dispute it. I won’t argue with it if that’s how they want to label me. Hopefully, I’m more than that also. Hopefully, I have a bit of artistic merit also.”

Rankin first appeared in Season 2 of the series based on the novels by Diana Gabaldon, and in Season 3, as a historian, his character Roger helps Claire (Caitriona Balfe) in her search for information as to what actually happened to Jamie Fraser (Heughan) at the Battle of Culloden. Did he survive?

On this Sunday’s episode,  Claire must help Brianna come to terms with the fact that she is truly her father’s daughter – her 18th century Highlander father that is. To complicate matters further, Roger brings news that forces Claire and Brianna to face an impossible choice.

Following is more of what Rankin had to say about joining the cast of Outlander; working with Skelton; how Roger’s accent is different than his, which most American’s won’t notice; learning Scottish history; meeting Gabaldon; and more.

The casting process for Roger was long. Can you talk a little bit about what it was that helped you find the character so that you finally won the role?

The casting process was long; it was nearly about 18 months. But they have to make sure that they find the people who are right for these roles; especially for Roger and Brianna.
