For fans of Tobias Menzies — whether you’re Team Black Jack Randall or Team Frank Randall, both will appear in the first episode back when Season 3 of Outlander premieres Sunday night — and it will feature a moment that has long been awaited. Black Jack and Jamie (Sam Heughan) will meet during the Battle of Culloden and finally get the chance to settle their differences, but only one will survive.

Interestingly, back in France in Season 2, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) had given Black Jack the date of his death. He didn’t know that for her it was a historic fact, not a bit of clairvoyance, so how seriously did he believe it when he took to the battlefield?
“I’m not entirely sure,” Menzies admitted to Parade.com in this exclusive interview. “Maybe a mixture. He’s in and out in terms of how much he believes Claire. I would say it’s acceptable that there might be something odd going on. The way we did it, you can see his reaction to getting stabbed by Jamie. It’s a surprise. So I think his natural hubris wins over and wins out against the more cautionary part of him.”

This dual role had to be one of the most challenging – Tobias Menzies was amazing.
I agree with Rhona. Tobias is an amazing actor. These two roles were so different from one another and his performance was OUTSTANDING.
