  1. Looking at the clothing on Claire and Jamie, I would say that they do LOOK 18th century, farming style, perhaps in the Indies or in America, specifically the South. The hat she is wearing, for example, is like the one my Virginia, farm wife grandmother used to wear every day except on Sunday. Then, she wore her black Sunday hat!
