From The Wall Street Jounral:

One of the biggest surprises in last week’s Season 2 premiere of “Outlander” was how little Jamie Fraser actually appeared in the episode. However, the romantic time-traveling series made up for the lack of the hot Scot tonight by keeping the story line to the 18th century, which meant viewers had a real opportunity to delve into the Highlander’s ongoing trauma. As suspected, Jamie – played by Scottish actor Sam Heughan – has a long way to go in his recovery from last season’s torture at the hands of Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies).

More after the jump!

If there was ever any doubt that this guy still needs to work through his problems, look no further than the disturbing opening scene from tonight’s episode, in which Black Jack continues to invade Jamie’s dreams. Jamie, determined to rid the sadistic British redcoat from his psyche, envisions himself stabbing Black Jack’s apparition repeatedly until they’re both drenched in blood, only to awaken in a cold sweat.

But when he’s not dealing with Black Jack’s lingering scars, Jamie is busy settling into his new Parisian lifestyle as a wine merchant and Jacobite-rebellion saboteur. This leaves him with barely any time to repair his now-strained relationship with his wife, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) – who, at of the conclusion of tonight’s episode, has learned a fateful secret that could destroy their mission, as well as their marriage.

Speakeasy had the opportunity to sit down with Heughan recently while the actor was in New York, where he discussed Jamie’s distressed mindset and teased what’s ahead for the Frasers as they navigate this exotic new world of the French aristocracy.
