In season two, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie arrive in France, where Jamie is still trying to recover from the trauma of his rape. They are thrown into the world of French society as they try to prevent the Highland uprising against the British that will end tragically for the Scots.
“He’s still trying to come to terms with everything,” says Heughan.
“There’s the physical side — he can deal with it. It’s the mental thing, the loss of his will. Enjoying the act is hard for Jaime to live with when he relates to Claire later on.”
