*CASTING NEWS* Sophie Skelton Cast as Brianna for Outlander Season 2   13 comments

From EW:

The wait is over, Outlander fans: Starz has finally found the young woman who will play the daughter of Jamie and Claire.

Newcomer Sophie Skelton has been cast to play Brianna in the series adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling books, EW has learned. For those who don’t know the character, Brianna is described as a striking, redheaded young woman who is strong-minded and intelligent beyond her years.

More importantly, she’s the daughter of Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan)!

The network won’t reveal when fans will meet Brianna after the drama returns in April. But in Gabaldon’s second Outlander book, Dragonfly in Amber, Brianna is introduced at the beginning before the action flashes back to Paris in the 1700s.

  3. Finally the long wait is over. Welcome Sophie to the best show in TV. I can see that Sophie had to have her natural brown hair dyed auburn to look like Jamie’s. Not much info available on her, but I am sure that will change in a hurry. Everyone will be hungry to know all there is to know about this beautiful girl.

  4. Can’t believe it we finally have our Brianna! Crazy coincidence, but I looked at her IMBD page and she says she has two brothers named, get this, SAM & ROGER! How funny is that??! Guess it was meant to be!

  10. I’m hoping for a good outcome. But I’m a bit worried.. I didn’t love her showreel– she seems to have a very high, thin voice. Also, the brown eyes are a problem for me– I think she looks more like Frank than Jamie, unfortunately. Very easy to dye her hair– but not easy to change the color of her eyes. Colored contact lenses usually look very fake, especially in close-up shots. Unless they are going to try to change her eyes in CGI, which would be very tricky to do well… This is a bigger problem than Caitriona not having Claire’s whiskey eyes– whiskey colored eyes are a nice idea but not important to the plot. Brianna resembling Jamie (and not Frank !!) is VERY important to the plot… oh, well…

    • I agree with you! Also, in the book, Brian name is very tall and according to IMDB, Sophia is only 5’8″! I’m sure she will do a good job. Just a little concerned about accuracy!

      • I’m hoping for a good outcome with Sophie Skelton, but am a bit concerned (regarding the height, they could put “Lifts” in her shoes which can make her an inch or two taller). I’m more concerned about her acting and brown eyes (I think she looks like Tobias !) (and it’s almost genetically impossible for 2 blue eyed people like Sam and Cait to have a brown eyed child).

We Outlander Fans were sooooooo incredibly lucky in the casting of Sam & Cait, that I’m worried Sophie/Rik won’t hit that level of excellence ( as Sam/Cait was one in a million, in my opinion). But I just have to trust the judgment of the producers and hope for the best.
