*New* Interview of Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe with Variety   1 comment

Still Jamie & Claire

From Variety

Outlander” returned from its six-month hiatus on April 4, and the midseason premiere, “The Reckoning,” forced Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) to renegotiate the rules of their relationship, after Claire’s decision to return to Craigh na Dun without Jamie’s knowledge resulted in her capture and near rape at the hands of Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies). Although Jamie and the Highlanders managed to rescue her (with unloaded weapons, no less) Claire’s choice put everyone in danger, and Jamie wasn’t afraid to let his wife know it, resulting in an explosive fight and subsequent spanking which threatened to derail their romance entirely.

*NEW* Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe Interview with Salon   1 comment

Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe interview with Salon

Jamie & Claire 1

“Outlander” has gotten criticism for centering violence against women so much in its narrative—from perceived husbandly duties to the seemingly ever-present threat of rape and/or sexual assault for Claire in 1743. But what I’m finding valuable about the series is the conversation it’s opening up about pervasive violence against women, in that culture or in ours. “Outlander” is not a happy fantasy—it’s a horror story, too, to be banished from the relatively modern era to a nearly medieval society. I spoke to the stars about filming that spanking scene, how they’re interpreting it for their characters, and in general, the challenges of inhabiting this sexually charged, violent world.

Caitriona, what is it like playing a character who goes from a world that has very specific sexual mores to one that has very different ones? Such as, for example, on one of Claire’s first nights in the castle, the laird’s brother Dougal (Graham McTavish) tries to rape your character in a side passageway.

Caitriona Balfe: That to Dougal is just flirting, by the way. (Laughs.)

Ron D. Moore’s Interview with EW   1 comment

Here’s an interview of Ron D. Moore with EW

From EW

Big sigh of relief, right? Though if you’re a reader of Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling book series upon which the Starz series is based, you knew about all that hanky-panky already. Showrunner Ron Moore does caution, however, that the upcoming episodes (premiering April 4 at 9 p.m. ET) might not live up—steaminess-wise—to the precedent set in episode 7. You know the one.

“The wedding episode sort of stands alone in the firmament,” Moore says. “There’s not another episode that’s as romantic and as sensual and has all those elements at play in it.”

*NEW* Interview of Sam Heughan with Radio Times *SPOILERS*   2 comments

Outlander 2014

From Radio Times

“It’s a lot darker. There is some amazing stuff,” Heughan tells RadioTimes.com, adding that we’ll see the relationship between Claire and his character Jamie Fraser “develop a lot.”

“It’s no spoiler for those who have read the books, but Jamie goes to a really tough, dark place. It’s really exciting viewing. I think it’ll be challenging for some people but I think it’s really fun to watch.”
