Here’s a new interview of Sam Heughan with Canada.com

From Canada.com

Heughan, a Scottish actor who grew up in converted stables on castle grounds, spoke about Outlander, his sex-symbol status and the possibility of a Doctor Who/Outlander crossover.

Q. How did you go about putting your own spin on this character, who is already so established in the books?

A. I pretty much had to go back to basics and go to the books, and forget about the preconceptions about him. I think the most important thing for me was that he’s a Gaelic speaker. I started to look at the Gaelic culture, the Scottish culture, and that for me opened up a lot of the background of who Jamie is and why he’s the way he is.

Q. Jamie was the virgin in his relationship with Claire, yet in the midseason premiere there’s a scene where he spanks her for being defiant. Do you see Outlander as a more progressive romance story?

A. I think so. I mean, we have a very strong female lead, and it’s an interesting dynamic. And that’s about them learning about each other and interacting with one another. The wedding, or what happens around that episode, is really just the start of this relationship that hopefully will span many seasons.
